The Chatteris Workhouse

The Chatteris workhouse, built in 1789, was located down what is now Blackhorse Lane, just off Bridge St.- High St end.
It was recently purchased by the Kent brothers and has been turned into flats, now being called Kent House.
From the road (Bridge St) one can see the Boxing Club, this used to be a school, the workhouse is behind it.(Pictures available when I have time!!)

When the new workhouse was built in Doddington, this was no longer needed and became derelict.
Chatteris residents were, in 1851, being sent to the Doddington Union Workhouse at that time, I will update this to more accurate dates when I have further information.

Please visit the site below to view the wonderful research by Peter Higginbotham and the people who have contributed towards his site.
