In the Family Vault in the Church Yard of this Parifh
Art depofited the mortal remains of
JOHN GARDNER (eldeft Son of JOHN and SARAH GARDNER )
Who on the 31st May 1769 was unfortunately drowned while bathing in the River of St. Ives.
In the eleventh year of his age
Alfo of MARRIOTT GARDNER(their fecond son)
A Student of Trinity College in the University of Cambridge.
To record every virtuous quality with which this amicable Youth was so happily ??
Were to defeat the intentions of this marble, by ?? every great and worthy attribute
which dignifies and ?? ?? Nature.
Early attached to the ftudy of polite and useful literature, he rendered himself confpicuous
As well by the ability and application with which he devoted himfelf to this noble purfuit
As by the fucceff which invariable crowned his laudable endeavours,
To a mind so enlarged and accomplifhed, which afforded his affectionate Parents.
And a numerous circle of approving friends, the grateful ?? of beholding him
The future Ornament of his Family and his Country he added the more ?? qualities
Of an Uniform attachment to the Duties of RELIGION
And a strict obfervance of the moral obligations of Society
He died on 31st August 1781, after having attained the age of Twenty one
